Coach Welsh- Captain of the Pirate Ship
Coach Brian Maynard Welsh was passionate at sunrise. There was a good chance you saw him at the Village Pantry talking politics, drinking coffee and holding a Trentonian in his hand before 6am most mornings. His classroom in the mezzanine was filled with laughter, life lessons and love. He was passionate about being an educator. He was the captain of our Pirate Ship at WWPHS but it was on the sidelines where he was most inspirational. He was loud, obnoxious, demanding, motivating, tender and caring. We were winners because of him but it was always about creating life long memories. He taught us that on our journey there would be pain and sadness but it was temporary and through adversity comes strength. I wish he would have heeded his own advice. 13 years have gone and I still think about him every day. I've come to realize that sometimes things are not what they seem and that we all struggle, often on a daily basis. What matters is how we respond to those feelings and struggles. Its never too late to turn things around. You're always in the fight. There is always someone to talk to. While we still search for answers after all this time let us remember his passion for life and how he made us feel.
